Client Profile: The Town of New Tecumseth

The Town of New Tecumseth was established in 1991 and encompasses the former communities of Alliston, Tottenham, Beeton and Tecumseth Township. Situated approximately 80 kilometres north of Toronto, New Tecumseth comprises three vibrant urban centres, beautiful rural areas, and a prosperous farming community.

During recent years, this vibrant community has experienced continuous expansion and growth as a result of increased employment opportunities and an expanding business sector.

The Project

In 2009, New Tecumseth was in need of various road improvements and a new fire pumper rescue vehicle was also required. 

The Tottenham Community Centre was also in need of renovation and expansion. The addition of a new 19,500 square foot wing, as well as renovations to the existing gymnasium were needed to better serve the needs of the growing community.

The Solution

The Town of New Tecumseth turned to Infrastructure Ontario’s Loan Program for a $3.4 million loan to help finance its improvement projects. Infrastructure Ontario was able to provide the Town with an affordable, long-term financing solution which allowed it to acquire the necessary equipment and complete the much needed renovations.

The Result

Residents of New Tecumseth now enjoy the benefits of an expanded community centre. The expansion of the Tottenham Community Centre offers residents a new wellness centre, walking track, seniors’ room, youth drop-in facility, and outdoor patio. The addition also includes a new guest services desk and administration offices.

Upgrades to the Town’s road infrastructure and emergency vehicles also helped to ensure road safety and emergency services to the residents of New Tecumseth.
