TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued two Request for Proposals (RFPs) to teams who have recently been shortlisted to bid on the advance tunnelling work on the Scarborough Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension projects.

Teams have been invited to respond to an RFP and will begin preparing their proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to award these tunnelling contracts in mid-2021.

A copy of the RFPs are available at www.infrastructureontario.ca/Eglinton-Crosstown-West-Extension-Advance-Tunnel and www.infrastructureontario.ca/Scarborough-Subway-Extension-Advance-Tunnel/

A fairness monitor will oversee the entire procurement process.

The Scarborough Subway Extension is an approximately 8-kilometre extension of Line 2 from Kennedy Station to McCowan Road/Sheppard Avenue.

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is a 9.2-kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (future TTC Line 5). The extension will run mostly underground, westward from the future Mount Dennis station to Renforth Drive.

To expedite work on these two projects, tunnelling will begin first, to be followed by separate contracts for the balance of the work on each project, which includes building the stations, fitting-out the tunnels and installing and commissioning the systems.
