Ontario Improving Access to Health Services for Patients in Oakville

Patients are one step closer to improved access to hospital services in Oakville. Construction of Halton Healthcare's new Oakville Hospital has reached substantial completion, meaning the building's exterior and interior are now finished.

Over the coming months the hospital will continue to work with the building team to transition into the new facility. The hospital is expected to begin providing patient care services in December 2015. Ontario is investing up to $2.27 billion for this project.

Through this project, patients in Oakville will benefit from:

  • A new 1.6-million square foot state-of-the-art hospital with capacity for up to 457 inpatient beds on opening day
  • A full range of health services, including: maternal child, critical care, emergency, medical surgical, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, diagnostics, ambulatory care and a variety of support services
  • Inpatient/outpatient adult, child and adolescent mental health services.

This infrastructure project has provided significant economic opportunity for suppliers and contractors in the Halton Region and the Greater Toronto Area. Construction began in September 2011 and, at its peak, more than 1,400 workers were on site daily.

Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan will help connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Ontarians by supporting critical infrastructure projects in cities, towns, and rural and remote communities all across the province.

Investing in new hospitals is part of the government's plan to build Ontario up. The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario's history, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.

This means putting all the detailed plans we have developed over the past four years into action, including the orientation and training of more than 3,500 staff, physicians and volunteers in a facility that is three times the size of their current workspace.
