Request for Qualifications Issued

TORONTO - The Woodstock General Hospital project reached a significant milestone today with the release of a request for qualifications (RFQ) for project teams to build, finance and maintain hard services at the new Woodstock General Hospital.

This is the first step in selecting the project team responsible for over 300,000 square feet of new construction that will last for years to come. The project will replace the aging, existing community hospital in Woodstock and bring new regional programs and services to Woodstock and Oxford County.

The new facility will provide increased clinical services, which include critical care, medical/surgical, maternal/child/women's health, complex continuing care, palliative care, inpatient rehabilitation, inpatient and outpatient mental health services, outpatient dialysis treatments, ambulatory clinics and procedures and emergency medicine.

“This marks an important milestone for Oxford County,” said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan. “The project is part of the government's five-year $30 billion plus infrastructure investment plan that represents the biggest investment in health care infrastructure in more than a generation.”

“Our government is committed to upgrading and modernizing health care so patients will have better access to services,” said Minister of Health and Long-Term Care George Smitherman.

“This announcement is a very important milestone in moving towards construction of our new hospital to better serve our patients and their families,” said President and CEO of Woodstock General Hospital Natasa Veljovic.

RFQ submissions will be reviewed to short-list project teams with the construction and facility management experience, qualified personnel and financial strength to manage a project of this size and complexity. Short-listed teams will then be invited to respond to a request for proposals to build, finance and maintain hard services at the new hospital.

Infrastructure Ontario will work with Woodstock General Hospital to manage the new hospital project, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects-ensuring they are built on time and on budget.

This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities. The Woodstock General Hospital project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
