TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx released a request for proposals (RFP) today to three teams shortlisted to design, build, finance and maintain a new maintenance facility for GO Transit.

The new maintenance facility is part of Metrolinx's continued commitment to improving public transit service in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. This revised RFP is reissued from an earlier version. At approximately 500,000 square feet, the East Rail Maintenance Facility will:

  • accommodate light and heavy train maintenance work
  • provide additional train storage to support GO Transit's planned service expansions, such as two-way, all-day train service
  • provide daily maintenance for up to 22 12-car passenger trains (13 at substantial completion with capacity for an additional nine in the future)

The maintenance facility will make public transit more reliable in the region and will support Metrolinx's regional transportation plan, The Big Move.

In September 2012, companies participated in a rigorous, competitive request for qualifications process in which Infrastructure Ontario working with Metrolinx reviewed and evaluated teams' abilities in design, construction, facilities management and financing in order to deliver this project.
