MISSISSAUGA - The request for proposal (RFP) stage has now closed for three short-listed building teams to submit proposals to design, build and finance Phase II of the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus development in Mississauga.

Phase II of the expansion at Sheridan consists of a new 220,000 square foot facility that will accommodate up to an additional 3,200 full-time students, for a total enrolment of approximately 5,500. The new facility will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, computer laboratories, a Centre of Creative Thinking, faculty offices, and a gallery space to celebrate student creativity and innovation.

Located on the existing campus at the corner of Duke of York Boulevard and Prince of Wales Drive, across from the Square One Shopping Centre, the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus Phase II expansion will also adhere to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standards, which focus on energy efficiency, healthy indoor environments and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

In 2013, a request for qualifications resulted in three teams being shortlisted who were eligible to submit an RFP for the project: Integrated Team Solutions, Progressive Learning Partnership, and Sheridan Creative Partnership. Over the next several months, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Sheridan College will review and evaluate the proposals received, with the successful team expected to be announced in fall 2014. Following the financial close period, the contract value will be announced with construction anticipated to begin at the end of 2014.

IO and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities are working together with Sheridan College to procure and deliver Phase II of the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus development.

IO is a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario that delivers large, complex infrastructure renewal projects on time and on budget. Over the last six years, the province has applied IO's alternative financing and procurement model to more than 83 major projects valued at approximately $38 billion, saving taxpayers an estimated $3 billion. IO also manages one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, provides municipalities and eligible public sector clients with financing to renew public infrastructure, and leverages its private-sector expertise to manage major commercial transactions on behalf of the province.

Sheridan is one of Canada's leading post-secondary institutions, enrolling over 18,000 full time students in over 100 diploma, certificate, and bachelor degree programs on four campuses in three cities. Its 133,000 alumni continue to shape the future course of our society in the arts, in business, and in the fields of technology and community service.
