Contractors bidding on Hamilton Health Sciences Henderson General Hospital have requested an extension to the bid submission deadline.

Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences have granted an extension from  July 18, 2007 to August 15, 2007 to provide proponents the time they require to complete submissions.

The Ontario government and Hamilton Health Sciences are committed to moving this project forward and to bringing improved access to healthcare to the region. Construction is expected to begin in late 2007.

The redevelopment of Henderson General Hospital will include new construction and renovations of the facility that will also provide for a modernized intensive care unit, operating rooms and emergency department, expand inpatient and outpatient services and provide acute care support for the cancer centre.

Infrastructure Ontario will work with Hamilton Health Sciences to redevelop the Henderson site, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the Province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects -- ensuring they are built on time and on budget.

This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities. Hamilton Health Sciences Henderson General Hospital project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
