Bidders have requested a four week extension to the closing date of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Bluewater Health project announced Infrastructure Ontario and Bluewater Health.

Bidders have requested the extension in order to give subcontractors additional time to provide their pricing information to the general contractors bidding on the project.  Bluewater Health and Infrastructure Ontario have granted an extension from February 7 to March 7, 2007 to ensure a range of comprehensive and competitively priced submissions.

Construction is still on track to begin in June 2007.

The Ontario government and Bluewater Health are committed to moving this project forward to bring improved access to healthcare to the region.

Once complete, the expanded hospital will have ambulatory care, complex continuing care, acute mental health programs, maternal program, expanded dialysis centre, a larger, more modern emergency department, eight redeveloped operating rooms and capacity for an additional 40 acute care beds.

Infrastructure Ontario will work with Bluewater Health to redevelop the hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable.  Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the Province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects -- ensuring they are built on time and on budget.

This project is guided by principles outlined in the Province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities.  The Bluewater Health project is one of many infrastructure projects being upgraded and modernized under ReNew Ontario, the government's five-year, $30-billion plus public infrastructure investment plan.
