Kevin Flynn, MPP for Oakville joined hospital officials today to celebrate preparations for construction of the New Oakville Hospital.

The site preparation work, also known as early works, is required to allow construction on the New Oakville Hospital to immediately begin following financial close. The early works project includes:

  • locating all utilities servicing the site;
  • installation of sediment and erosion control fencing;
  • digging of temporary storm water management ditches to manage water and increase rainwater retention; and
  • top soil stripping and earth grading.

The New Oakville Hospital will be a state-of-the-art facility with a full range of health services including:

  • complex continuing care;
  • rehabilitation;
  • renal dialysis;
  • acute inpatient care;
  • maternal child care;
  • inpatient and outpatient adult and child and adolescent mental health;
  • secondary and tertiary level programs.

The hospital will be designed and built to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system, with a goal of achieving LEED® Silver certification. LEED® buildings focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources.

Quotes:

Kevin Flynn, MPP for Oakville
“Work is underway on our brand new state-of-the-art hospital and I couldn't be happier that the McGuinty government is building one of the country's best hospitals right here in Oakville. This project is expected to be the provincial government's largest capital investment in any community in our province's history. I am proud to have delivered on my promise to bring this new hospital to Oakville.”

John Oliver, President and CEO, Halton Healthcare Services
“The site preparation work we are starting today brings us closer to the day when we will break ground on our new hospital. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to build this new hospital to meet the needs of our patients and our community. The New Oakville Hospital will ensure that quality healthcare services will be available for the residents of Oakville for many years to come. We are on-track to complete negotiations with Hospital Infrastructure Partners by the end of July and are looking forward to working in partnership with HIP to build this much needed hospital for Oakville”.
