About Sheridan

Founded in 1967, Sheridan has grown from a local college of 400 students to one of Ontario's leading postsecondary institutions, educating approximately 18,000 full-time and 35,000 continuing and part-time students every year on four campuses in Oakville, Brampton and Mississauga.

An award-winning institution, Sheridan attracts students from across Canada and around the world. Sheridan's 133,000 alumni play a critical role in shaping the future in the fields of arts, business, community service, health, technology, and the skilled trades.

The Hazel McCallion Campus (HMC)

Since its opening in 2011, HMC has made a significant contribution to invigorating Mississauga's city centre. The new expansion of the campus will further support the city's economic and social development by attracting thousands of students to the city core.

The expansion project is a new state-of-the-art building that will connect to the existing HMC building and will be situated at the corner of Duke of York Boulevard and Rathburn Road West, near Square One Shopping Centre and City Hall in Mississauga.

The 220,000 square-foot facility will accommodate up to 3,200 additional full-time students, for a total enrolment of approximately 5,500 students. Highlights of the expansion project include space for faculty and administrative offices, 29 new classrooms, 28 new studios, labs and production spaces, and a creative campus complex that consists of:

  • a central learning and collaborative meeting space known as the Creativity Commons;
  • research and leadership centres such as the Institute for Creativity; and
  • a gallery space to showcase student creativity and innovation.

The new HMC building will house Sheridan's Sustainable Built Environment Program, which consists of the Architecture, Interior Design, Interior Decorating and Visual Merchandizing programs of study. The building will also function as a Living Laboratory - a teaching tool to allow students to experience and understand the positive impacts of sustainable design strategies.

Designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver standards, which focus on energy efficiency, healthy indoor environments and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, the building aims to meet stringent energy targets to ensure a highly efficient building system. Data about the building's superior performance will be accessible to students as part of the Living Laboratory. Elements of the building construction will also be exposed for viewing, and signage will lead visitors on an interactive building tour about water efficiency, lighting, indoor environmental quality, structure and energy use.

When completed, the HMC expansion project will further expand Sheridan's Creative Campus concept to provide a collaborative learning environment that fosters creativity and innovation.
