TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton announced today that Zeidler Partnership Architects have been selected to lead the planning, design and compliance aspects of the capital redevelopment project at the Centre for Mountain Health Services site.

“This marks an important milestone for St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton,” said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, David Caplan. “The project is part of the government's five-year $30-billion-plus infrastructure investment plan that represents the biggest investment in health care infrastructure in more than a generation.”

“With the selection of an architectural firm, the province is following through on its promise to build better health care for Ontarians,” said Sophia Aggelonitis, MPP Hamilton Mountain. “We're a step closer to a new state-of-the art facility for the residents of our community.”

Zeidler Partnership Architects will prepare key documents including the master plan, site plan, block diagrams and project specific output specifications. These key documents will form the guidelines within which the successful building team must work when preparing the overall design.

“This announcement marks an early and significant step toward meeting the needs of our community. Our staff looks forward to working with Infrastructure Ontario and Zeidler Partnership Architects to develop the design specifications,” said Kevin Smith, President and CEO, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. “This is an exciting beginning for our staff and residents of Hamilton supporting this project.”

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will work with St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, Centre for Mountain Health Services to build the new hospital, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to managing some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget.

This project is guided by principles outlined in the province's Building a Better Tomorrow framework, which ensures public ownership of core assets such as hospitals, schools, and water and wastewater facilities.
